Project Overview

The task was to create a new logo for Hyper Theory Games that aligned with the existing Hyper Theory brand while establishing a distinct identity. This project involved developing a new icon and refining the existing logo elements.

Challenges

  1. Maintaining brand consistency while creating a separate identity
  2. Working with a customised/edited font from the original logo
  3. Refining and reworking elements of the quickly assembled original logo

Research and Inspiration

To inform the design process, we conducted research on other game studio logos. The Bethesda logo, in particular, provided valuable insights, highlighting the need for:

  • A design with dimensionality
  • An icon that could be simplified when necessary
  • Visibility and recognisability at small sizes

Design Process

The design journey involved multiple iterations, exploring various:

  • Colour schemes
  • Shapes
  • Stylistic elements

Final Design

The final logo strikes a balance between simplicity and distinctiveness. It successfully:

  • Complements the existing Hyper Theory brand
  • Stands out as a unique identifier for Hyper Theory Games
  • Functions effectively at various sizes and in different contexts

Key Learnings

This project underscored the importance of:

  • Thorough brand analysis before beginning the design process

Conclusion

The Hyper Theory Games logo project was a valuable exercise in brand extension and refinement. It resulted in a versatile, recognisable logo that effectively represents the gaming division of the studio, while maintaining a connection to the parent brand.
